Shibori dyeing is one of the oldest known fabric manipulation and dyeing techniques – an ancient art technique that uses the tying, stitching and securing of fabric to combine with dyes to achieve intricate and marveling patterns. Though shibori has become closely associated with craftspeople in Japan, this method of resist dyeing has been utilized by a variety of cultures throughout centuries, with each culture producing a diverse offering of methods, patterns and colours. Ne-Maki, the method of binding fabric around round objects, produces a distinct circular pattern that is beautiful and random in appearance. To honour this tradition, we worked closely with textile artists to develop and create our own homemade Bather Ne-Maki.
